Resident permits and work visa

I’m turning 18 and I do not have a permanent residence permit. Will I have to quit school and start working in order to be able to show that I can support myself financially?

No you do not have to leave school. You must however register for full time studies and finish at least 75% of the curriculum each term/semester. If you live with your parents, a statement from them on financial support will suffice. You can also get a permit that gives you the right to work along with your studies.
